State of Tennessee Police State

Tennessee proudly becomes a police state by inviting unwarranted searches within state borders. They even have the catchy acronym "VIPR" for their authoritarian police state.

Tennessee Becomes First State To Fight Terrorism Statewide
You're probably used to seeing TSA's signature blue uniforms at the airport, but now agents are hitting the interstates to fight terrorism with Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR).
...
Tuesday Tennessee was first to deploy VIPR simultaneously at five weigh stations and two bus stations across the state.

US Forced To Leave Iraq

There has been widespread news reports that troops will be leaving Iraq. Largely unreported has been the negotiations with the Iraqi government to try to allow US troops to stay longer. The Iraqi government refused to extend the US troop presence, so the US is being to leave Iraq.

U.S. Troop Withdrawal Motivated by Iraqi Insistence, Not U.S. Choice
President Obama’s speech formally declaring that the last 43,000 U.S. troops will leave Iraq by the end of the year was designed to mask an unpleasant truth: The troops aren’t being withdrawn because the U.S. wants them out. They’re leaving because the Iraqi government refused to let them stay.

Iran, War, 1953

US media and politicians are beginning to pound the war drums against Iran. Who thinks Iran is capable of attacking the US?

In 1953, the CIA overthrew the democratically elected government in Iran.

Protest America

The Occupy Wall Street movement may be misinformed by attacking a symptom of the problem. Nevertheless, they do have some good points such as all debt, including student loans, should be dis-chargeable in bankruptcy.

This video dramatically compares worldwide protests against dictators with the protests in the USA.

Government Banking Rip-Off Continues

Fannie and Freddie have nearly all of the mortgage market. Being backstopped by government money, there is no other competition.

Why did Fannie and Freddie send over 150 people to a finance industry junket and party? Fannie and Freddie also sponsored the event, ultimately at taxpayer expense.

The New York Times has the story on Fannie and Freddie wasting taxpayer money:
It might seem jarring that Freddie, which was rescued by Washington and today exists at the pleasure of taxpayers, paid $80,000 to become a “platinum” sponsor of this shindig. Fannie Mae, that other ward of the state, paid $60,000 to become a “gold” sponsor.

Keep in mind that taxpayers bailed out Fannie and Freddie to the tune of about $150 billion.

Today, Fannie and Freddie are about the only games in mortgage town. Yes, banks make loans, but more often than not they hand them off to one of the two. So it’s a mystery why Fannie and Freddie needed to help foot the bill for the gathering.

CIA Spies On New Yorkers

Peaceful protests are allowed and protected by the 1st amendment to the constitution. Why is the federal government's overseas spy agency, the CIA, spying on Americans in New York City?

CBS news has the story on CIA spying in New York City:
Three months ago, one of the CIA's most experienced clandestine operatives started work inside the New York Police Department. His title is special assistant to the deputy commissioner of intelligence. On that much, everyone agrees.
...
The CIA is prohibited from spying domestically, and its unusual partnership with the NYPD has troubled top lawmakers and prompted an internal investigation.
...
All of this has troubled lawmakers, including Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., the chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, who has said the CIA has "no business or authority in domestic spying, or in advising the NYPD how to conduct local surveillance."

Sheriffs Against Gun Smuggling

Sheriffs in Arizona are against gun smuggling by our federal government! When will these federal criminal be indicted?

Arizona sheriffs blast gun-smuggling operation
Ten Arizona sheriffs slammed the Obama administration on Friday over a botched federal operation that that lost track of up to 1,400 weapons sold to suspected straw purchasers for Mexican drug gangs.

The sheriffs called for the president to launch an independent investigation and for Attorney General Eric Holder to step down or be fired. They also said the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' 2009 operation, known as "Fast and Furious," was a betrayal of state law enforcement.

Veterans Disarmament

The military is trained with weapons and fights for America. Upon returning home, they may find they are unwanted.

Gun Owners of America
reports on an effort to disarm veterans:
The Military Order of the Purple Heart is opposed to the McCarthy-Leahy bill, having stated on June 18 of this year, that "For the first time the legislation, if enacted, would statutorily impose a lifetime gun ban on battle-scarred veterans."

Military veterans are justifiably concerned that this bill will legitimize the very thing that President Clinton did over seven years ago, when his administration added 83,000 names of veterans -- suffering from maladies such as PTSD -- into the NICS background check system.
