Passport With RFID Chip

US Passports are still being renewed without the radio chip in the cover and digitized picture data. Get your passports renewed now and they are good for a decade. It takes a couple weeks and $67.

SSN/Tax Payer ID is not needed for a US Passport.

Somewhat wrong here. If you have a SSN you're required to put it down on the application. If you don't have a SSN you're supposed to put 000-00-0000 instead.

If you've gotten an application past the passport clerk without a SSN on it, you're doing pretty good in the "creative stories" department.

They don't seem to run the SSN's past the IRS for domestic issuance of passports, but if you're renewing your passport at an overseas US consulate you can bet your bootie that they'll check with the IRS before they hand you a new passport. If the IRS says you're behind on your filings, they'll hand you a special passport that's only good for immediate travel to the US to "rectify the problem" with the IRS.
